7/18/2016 - Burlington Township Police Officers Apprehend Car Thieves/Burglars
BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ - On July 17, 2016, at approximately 7:24 pm, the Burlington Township Police Department was dispatched to the Dodge City car dealership located at 4395 Route 130 South in Burlington Township, NJ for a report of a past tense burglary to the business that occurred sometime the previous night. The investigation revealed that two suspects entered the business during the early morning hours on July 17th; however, it was unclear what, if anything, was stolen.
On July 18, 2016, at approximately 1:18 am, the Burlington Township Police Department received an alarm activation at Dodge City. Officers responded, and upon their arrival they observed a white Jeep Grand Cherokee exiting the parking lot. The officers conducted a motor vehicle stop on the Jeep and discovered that the vehicle was stolen off the Dodge City parking lot. Xavier Carter (18 year old male of Beverly, NJ) was the operator of that vehicle, and he was arrested on the scene. Additional officers from the Burlington Township Police Department, the Burlington City Police Department and the Edgewater Park Police Department quickly canvassed the area for additional suspects. Three suspects were observed fleeing the area on foot, and they were apprehended as they ran across Route 130 towards Willingboro, NJ. Those three suspects were identified as Terry Bailey (18 year old male of Burlington City, NJ), a 15 year old juvenile male from Beverly, NJ and a 15 year old juvenile male from Burlington City, NJ.
As officers continued their investigation on scene, they learned that another vehicle, a Dodge Charger, was missing from the Dodge City lot. That vehicle was stopped a short time later by the Westville Police Department as it was being operated by a 13 year old juvenile male from Burlington City, NJ. That 13 year old juvenile male was arrested by the Westville Police Department and turned over to the custody of the Burlington Township Police Department.
Ultimately, two stolen motor vehicles were recovered, and five suspects were arrested. The Burlington Township Police Department would like to thank the Burlington City Police Department, the Edgewater Park Police Department and the Westville Police Department for their assistance during this investigation.
