Director Walter J. Corter

Director Walter J. Corter began his law enforcement career in November of 1974, as a Police Officer with Burlington Township Police Department. Over the next 20 years, he held various assignments in the Patrol Division, Investigation Division, and in 1983, was appointed as the Director of Public Safety for the Police Department. He held this position until 1994.

In 1994, Director Corter left Burlington Township for the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office to serve as Chief of Investigations. His duties included leading a county-wide investigative staff responsible for investigating all major crimes that occurred in the county. He also was responsible for the county narcotics task force and Burlington County Police Academy.

In January of 2004, Director Corter was asked to return to Burlington Township to serve as the Director of Public Safety.

Director Corter served in 2002 as the National President of the FBI National Academy Associates. In 2001, he was appointed by FBI Director Mueller to serve on Director Mueller’s National Law Enforcement Advisory Committee. Director Corter has served on promotional boards for the position of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Chief of Police for numerous departments throughout the country and organizations to include the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He has received numerous recognitions throughout his career to include several lifetime career achievement awards from organizations to include the Jewish Relations Council of South Jersey, Burlington County Prosecutor's Office, and the FBI National Academy Associates. In addition, he is a lifetime member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the FBI National Academy Associates.
