LT. Richard Sweeney
Lt.
Richard Sweeney began his law enforcement career in October of 1982, as a
Police Officer with Burlington Township Police Department. Over the next 25
years, he held various assignments in the Patrol Division and Investigation
Division, to include the rank of Detective, Patrol Sergeant, and Lieutenant.
Lt. Sweeney is currently assigned as the Investigative Division Commander.Lt. Sweeney is a graduate of Burlington County College, where he obtained his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. At the present time, he is attending Thomas Edison State University, where he is pursuing his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice.
Lt. Sweeney is a graduate of the West Point Command and Leadership School, and the Certified Public Manager's Course, Which is sponsored by Fairleigh Dickenson University. In 2005, Lt. Sweeney attended the FBI National Academy Program, a 12-week course that is internationally known for its academic excellence in advanced investigative, management, and fitness training for selected officers having proven records as professionals within their agencies.
Lt. Sweeney has served in numerous units such as Street Crimes, Detective Bureau, Burlington County Narcotics Task Force, Community Police Unit, Firearms Unit, and Professional Standards Unit. Lt. Sweeney is currently the Vice-President of the Burlington County Internal Affairs Association.
Over the course of his career, LT. Sweeney has received numerous accolades and commendations for his outstanding service to the residents and community of Burlington Township.
