Supervisor – Sergeant Matthew Jones #93

Sgt. Matthew Jones has been a member of the Burlington Township Police Department since 2012.  Sgt. Jones grew up in Burlington Township.  He began his law enforcement career as a Class I and Class II Special Officer down the shore for the Sea Girt Police Department in 2008. In 2009, Sgt. Jones became a Class II Special Officer for the Mount Holly Police Department and worked there until 2012. 

In 2012, he became a member of the Burlington Township Police Department as a Patrol Officer. Sgt. Jones worked in the Patrol Bureau for 6 years.  During his time, he served on the Bicycle Patrol Unit, Adopt-A-Cop, Honor Guard Unit and was a Field Training Officer. In 2017, Sgt. Jones served as a Task Force Officer for the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office’s Gangs, Guns, & Narcotics Task Force, where he assisted and lead narcotic related investigations.   In 2018, Sgt. Jones was assigned to the Investigations Bureau and served as a Detective.  In 2022, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to the Patrol Bureau.  Sgt. Jones is currently the supervisor of Patrol Squad 1.  He is also the supervisor of the department’s Honor Guard Unit, which is very active in police & first responder ceremonies, along with presenting the colors for local and professional sporting events.  In his off time, Sgt. Jones enjoys working out, going down the shore, and  spending time with his wife and golden retriever Boston.

Overview

The Honor Guard Unit is comprised of six active members and is headed by Sgt. Jones, who are all specially trained in traditional military ceremony and drill.  The unit serves the community by representing the values of the Police Department: Integrity, Service and Respect.  The Honor Guard Unit is the official ceremonial unit of the police department, which participates in funerals, parades, school events, police and first responder ceremonies, and other ceremonial events.  The unit has presented the nation’s colors for the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Eagles, NY Giants, 200 Club Dinners, and the Burlington County Fallen Officers Memorial Annual Ceremony.
